Cast-iron radiator stripping.
We strip old paint from cast-iron and steel radiators back to bare metal, treat the rust, then return them bare or finished ready to refit. Ornate Victorian and Edwardian column radiators come up especially well once the paint is out of the pattern. Each radiator is priced after we see it.
Radiators back to bare metal
Old cast-iron column radiators are worth keeping, but decades of paint fill in the pattern and make them look tired. Stripping takes them back to bare metal so the casting shows again and a new finish goes on properly.
We strip paint and powder coating off, then treat the rust before the radiator leaves the workshop, because bare iron starts to rust quickly. You can take it back bare, or have it finished; we use Little Greene oil gloss on cast-iron radiators after stripping and rust-treating.
Radiators need to be drained and taken off the wall first, usually by your plumber. Heavy radiators are easier on our collection round.

Send a photo and rough size. Cast iron is heavy, so tell us whether you can drop it off or need a collection.
Strip
Paint, powder coating and old enamel come off back to bare metal, so the casting detail shows again.
Treat the rust
Bare cast iron and steel start to rust quickly, so rust is dealt with before the piece leaves the workshop.
Finish
Returned bare, or finished in clear lacquer, waxed black, high-temperature enamel or oil gloss.

Cast-iron radiator stripping: common questions
Can you strip old cast-iron radiators?
Yes. We strip cast-iron and steel radiators back to bare metal, treat the rust, and return them bare or finished. Ornate column radiators come up especially well once the paint is out of the pattern.
Do I need to drain the radiator first?
Yes. Radiators must be drained and disconnected before they come to us, usually by a plumber. Have your plumber check them when they go back on the wall.
What paint do you use on stripped radiators?
We use Little Greene oil gloss on cast-iron radiators after stripping and rust-treating. You can also take them back bare to paint yourself.
Do you collect, or do I drop it off?
Both. Smaller pieces are usually dropped at Crossley Mills in Honley. For larger jobs we run a Tuesday and Friday collection round, with no charge within 20 miles of the workshop, which covers Huddersfield, Holmfirth, Honley, Halifax, Wakefield and Leeds. Customers further away send pieces by overnight courier.
