How much does it cost to strip a door?
At Double Dipper, a standard four-panel internal pine door costs from £60 to strip, neutralise and dry. External front doors and stained-oak doors cost £80–£95 because they are heavier and carry more paint. A full house of doors, stripped as one batch, works out at about £55–£80 per door.
What affects the price of stripping a door?
Size, the number of paint layers, the type of paint, and the door's condition. Glazed doors, doors with loose joints or veneer that must be stripped by hand, and doors with lots of moulding take longer and cost more.
Is it cheaper to strip a door yourself?
The materials are cheaper, but a painted Victorian door can take a full weekend with a heat gun and scraper, and paint stays in the mouldings. Old paint may also contain lead, which shouldn't be sanded or burned at home. A professional strip is quicker and cleaner, and the door comes back ready to finish.
Is collection included in the price?
Collection is free within 20 miles of our workshop in Honley, near Huddersfield, which covers Huddersfield, Holmfirth, Halifax, Wakefield, Leeds and Bradford. Further afield, a van collection is quoted separately or you can send doors by courier. The stripping price is the same wherever you are.
How long does door stripping take?
Most single doors are ready in 7–10 working days. A full set of doors for a house usually takes about a fortnight.
