Our Story

Ten years a master.
One pair of hands.

The longer story behind Double Dipper: a workshop in Crossley Mills, run by Daniel Fitzpatrick, member of The Guild of Master Craftsmen since 2016.

Inside the Double Dipper workshop: tools, timber and the quiet of a working bench

The path

Three workshops, one bench.

From Pine by Design in 2000 to today.

  1. 1995

    Apprenticeship

At seventeen, Daniel begins a three-year apprenticeship in wood turning and cabinet making under a reputable Yorkshire firm. Strong moral values, work ethic, true Yorkshire grit.

  2. 2000

    Pine by Design

Opens his first workshop at Crossley Mills. The platform every later venture would grow from. Handmade kitchens and solid wood furniture, fitted to the inch.

  3. 2007

    Spindles Wood Turning

Founds the sister workshop down the lane. Turned spindles, newel posts, table legs and bowls. Bespoke at heart, traditional in technique.

  4. 2014

    Double Dipper

Adds the strip-and-dip workshop to the family of businesses. Pine doors, cast-iron fireplaces, Edwardian radiators. The things worth keeping, returned to the wood and metal beneath.

  5. 2016

    Guild of Master Craftsmen

Accepted into The Guild after a rigorous entry process. References, inspections, a clear track record of skill, integrity and care.

  6. Today

    Still at the bench

Ten years on, the standard hasn't changed. He still does every job himself. The booking, the strip, the sand, the finish, the phone call about the price.
