Paint stripping in Emley.

The local stock

Emley sits high on the moor edge under the famous Emley Moor mast, and it's a proper old stone village — the conservation area around the church and the Green is full of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century cottages, with working farmsteads on the lanes out toward Emley Moor and Flockton. The woodwork tends to be older and heavier than the valley terraces: solid plank doors, oak lintels, flagged floors and the occasional original kitchen range.

How we serve Emley

Emley is a short drive from the workshop. Farmhouse and cottage pieces — heavy doors, settles, ranges — are usually collected on the van, while smaller items are dropped at Crossley Mills in Honley.

Common questions

About paint stripping in Emley.

Can you strip a heavy farmhouse plank door from Emley?

Yes — old ledged-and-braced plank doors and solid oak farmhouse doors are bread-and-butter for us. We dip-strip the paint and any old varnish, treat the timber, and hand-finish so the grain comes back. Heavier doors are quoted individually; ring 01484 666 333.

Do you collect from Emley?

Yes. Emley is on the regular collection round — for larger or heavier pieces Daniel comes out on the van. Smaller items can be dropped at the Honley workshop, around fifteen minutes away down the hill.

Can you restore an old cast-iron kitchen range?

We strip and refinish cast-iron ranges, inserts and surrounds. Full ranges are quoted after we see them, as the condition and amount of seized paint vary a lot. Send a photo to the workshop and we'll give you a realistic figure.
